The Women in the Wind organization started in 1979 in Toledo, Ohio, when founder Becky Brown placed an ad in her local newspaper looking for female riders who wanted to form a club and ride. Eleven women responded to the ad and they took their first club ride through the scenic byways of the Maumee River. Today, there are over 1,000 members in 60 chapters in the U.S., Great Britain, Canada and Australia.
Women in the Wind purpose is to unite women motorcyclists with friends of common interest. To promote a positive image to the public of women on motocycles.
OZ Outlawz
The Topeka Chapter of Women in the Wind are known as the Oz Outlawz
We are women from all walks of life who ride a variety of makes and styles of motorcycles. Our members consist of secretaries, real estate agents, teachers, factory workers, police officers, and more. We are married and single, mothers and grandmothers, new riders and seasoned riders
We hold chapter benefit functions, attend local and distant rallies and swap meets, support our fellow motorcycle riding organizations, organize parties, and participate in special events.
We are a supporter of "eliminating racism, empowering women"-ywca. We have a link on the menu to this wish list.
We provide a forum for women to discuss issues that affect female riders. We cultivate an environment that encourages new and seasoned riders to learn to ride safely. We organize events which allow the public to challenge their views about female motorcyclists.
Our members strive to educate the significance of safety and maintenance on the road; and the importance, through example, of building a positive image of women riders.
